Artist-Led Craftsmanship & Sustainable Building in Connecticut

Adam Viens is a mixed media artist and builder whose work moves between painting, reclaimed material, furniture, and the built environment. That overlap is central to EarthSake: the company is not separate from the point of view behind it.

Our Philosophy

Craft Meets Collaborative Process

EarthSake Initiatives was founded by artist and builder Adam Viens as a response to the transactional nature of modern contracting. After years in the trades, it became impossible to ignore the amount of waste, rushed workmanship, and “good enough” thinking that defines so much of the industry. EarthSake grew from a different belief: that building can be more responsible, more thoughtful, and more artful.

Today, EarthSake operates as a small, high-standard build studio focused on renovations, custom spaces, adaptive reuse, and work that treats craftsmanship as a form of care. Our perspective is shaped by art as much as construction—by composition, atmosphere, rhythm, and the relationship between materials. We believe the spaces people inhabit affect how they live, think, and feel. That understanding guides every project we take on.

We are drawn to work with people who care about the difference between a room that simply looks updated and a space that feels truly resolved. The goal is never to replicate someone else’s idea of home. It is to create spaces that feel grounded, personal, and built with integrity.

Our range of services reflects the diversity and depth of our expertise. EarthSake Initiatives offers full home remodels, new construction, kitchen and bath renovations, and specialized projects like tiny home construction and out-building design. We craft bespoke furniture and accent walls from job site refuse and reclaimed wood, turning potential waste into signature features. Our fine art services, including original murals by Adam Viens Arts, bring a unique creative layer to residential and commercial spaces. Historic restoration is a key focus, with projects that merge 18th-century aesthetics with modern comfort. From deck and pavilion builds to custom pergolas and patio furniture, every element is approached with care and sustainability in mind. Our shop in Middletown supports projects throughout the region, including high-profile neighborhoods and historic districts.
